Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to QR Reader °- Bar Code Scanner (“QR Reader” or the “app”), provided by Hong Kong Real Joy Technology Limited (“we”, “us”, or “our”). It explains information processed in connection with the app and your privacy choices. Our privacy contact is dev@realjoytech.com.
This policy is specific to QR Reader. Our company website has a separate Website Privacy Policy, and use of QR Reader is also described in its Terms of Service.
Scanning, images, and saved codes
The app uses your camera or an image you select to recognise QR codes and barcodes. A code may contain a website address, contact information, a location, text, or other information. Avoid scanning, importing, or sharing information you are not entitled to use.
The app saves scan history on your device for later reference and lets you create, save, share, or export codes. Saving a code in your device history is different from opening its destination or sending it to another service.
When you choose to open a scanned link, search for product information, share a code, or export a file, the destination or recipient you choose may receive the code, query, or file involved. Those actions are subject to that service’s own information practices. A device backup or export you create may also contain saved app information.
Device, usage, and diagnostic information
QR Reader may process technical information for app functionality and analytics. This includes device identifiers, device and operating-system information, app version, installation and usage information, country or region, distribution channel, advertising data, and crash information.
Device identifiers may be linked to you. Advertising data and crash data are disclosed in the app’s privacy information as not linked to your identity. We do not describe all technical information as anonymous: identifiers or combined information may constitute personal data.
We use relevant information to operate app features, understand usage, diagnose problems, and improve the reliability and usefulness of the app.
Advertising and tracking choices
QR Reader may include advertising. Identifiers may be used for tracking across apps and websites, subject to your choices and applicable requirements. Advertising, usage, and diagnostic information may be handled by service providers supporting advertising, analytics, and app functionality.
Where Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission is required, tracking requires your permission. You can review the app’s tracking permission in your device’s Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining tracking does not remove all processing needed to operate the app or all non-personalised advertising.
If a purchase offers an ad-free experience, the benefits are those stated in the purchase screen. An ad-free feature should not be interpreted as a promise that no operational or diagnostic information is processed.
Permissions and your device settings
Camera permission supports live scanning. Image-related features use an image you select or the photo access allowed by your device. A sharing, contact, calendar, or location-related action may open another app or request a relevant permission when you choose that action.
You can decline or change permissions in your device settings. Refusing camera access prevents camera scanning; refusing access to an image prevents processing that image. Other available features can be used where they do not depend on the refused permission. A code containing a map location does not by itself mean the app has access to your device’s location.
Purchases and support correspondence
Apple processes payments for purchases made through the App Store. For App Store purchases, Apple handles payment card information under its own terms and privacy notices. Apple’s purchase records and the purchase status available to the app support the features associated with your purchase.
If you contact dev@realjoytech.com, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond, investigate the issue, or handle a privacy request. Providing them is voluntary, but we may not be able to address your request without relevant details. Do not send passwords or full payment details.
Recipients and disclosures
Information may be handled by service providers supporting app functionality, advertising, analytics, diagnostics, or support. We use information for the purposes described in this policy and require applicable safeguards when engaging a provider to process personal data on our behalf.
Recipients you choose through sharing, export, product lookup, or opening a link receive the information involved in your chosen action. We may also disclose relevant information when required by applicable law or a lawful request, or where legally necessary to address fraud, abuse, or a claim. We assess such requests and do not treat them as permission for unrelated use.
Providers or recipients may process information outside Hong Kong or your place of residence. Applicable protections and contractual arrangements are used where required for such processing. Contact us for information relevant to your request.
Retention and deletion
Information is retained only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it is processed, subject to applicable legal requirements. The period depends on the type of information, operational need, and any unresolved support matter or legal obligation.
Device history, exports, and backups are subject to the controls offered by the app, your device, or the destination you choose. Removing local app data does not automatically delete copies that you have exported, backed up, or sent to another service. You can ask us about information held by us using the contact details below.
Security
We use reasonable measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, loss, or disclosure. No app, device, or transmission method is completely secure. You can help protect your information by keeping your device updated, protecting access to it, and reviewing a code’s destination before opening it.
Privacy requests and your rights
You may request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you, and request deletion where applicable. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, or raise a complaint with a privacy authority.
Send a request to dev@realjoytech.com with the subject “QR Reader privacy request”. Specify the request and the relevant app or correspondence, without sending unnecessary sensitive information. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will explain any applicable exception that prevents us from fulfilling a request.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already lawfully carried out. A device-level tracking choice can be changed in Settings. You may raise an unresolved concern with the Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data or the competent authority where you live.
Children and family use
QR Reader is a general-purpose utility. An App Store content rating does not by itself establish a child’s legal capacity to consent to personal-data processing or make purchases. Where a child needs a parent’s or guardian’s authorisation under applicable law, that authorisation is required.
We do not knowingly collect a child’s personal information without legally required authorisation. If you believe this has occurred, contact dev@realjoytech.com so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the app or our information practices. We will publish the current policy here and update its effective date. Where a material change requires notice or consent, we will provide that notice or seek consent as required; publishing a new policy alone does not replace consent that the law requires.
We will not apply material changes retroactively to previously collected personal information without your affirmative consent.
